Scanners are very useful for both home and business use. Unfortunately, when they stop working, it can be a real nightmare. It’s a pretty common problem and scanners can stop working properly for more than one reason. Obviously, you can get a hardware failure, but in most cases it is just a case of missing or out-of-date drivers. Here are some steps you can take to get your scanner working again.
Identifying Scanner Problems
If your PC scanner is not working correctly, the very first step is to double check all of the connections. It may seem obvious, but you would be suprised how often it is the actual problem. Check that cables from the scanner are connected properly and powered on. You have probably done this, so the next huge cause of scanner trouble (assuming no faulty hardware) are the drivers you have installed.
A scanner relies on drivers to properly function with your PC. In the case that these drivers go missing, become corrupt or go out-of-date then your scanner might be able to rely on the system default drivers, but in many cases, it just won’t operate at all.
How to Update Scanner Drivers
The old and slow method is to identify your scanner make and model, then surf around the manufacturer sites searching for the correct driver. Some manufacturers provide update software with the hardware. Either of these is not necessarily the best method. We prefer to use driver management software. This software will scan an enormous database of files and will automatically fix your PC with the best drivers. The great thing about this software is that it’s not just for scanner drivers. You can update any and all of your drivers in a few minutes.
Using driver update software will definitely boost your entire system performance. You can improve video performance, audio quality, increase responsiveness and much more. If you have never used a driver management program, then you should give it a shot. Learn much more about how to update scanner drivers here.
